Madurai is one of the major cities in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of Madurai District, the third largest city in Tamil Nadu and 25th most populated city in India.Located on the banks of River Vaigai, Madurai has been a major settlement for two millennia.Madurai is closely associated with the Tamil language, and the third Tamil Sangam, a major congregation of Tamil scholars said to have been held in the city. The recorded history of the city goes back to the 3rd century BCE, being mentioned by Megasthenes, the Greek ambassador to the Maurya empire, and Kautilya, a minister of the Mauryan emperor Chandragupt Maurya. Signs of human settlements and Roman trade links dating back to 300BC are evident from excavations by Archeological Survey of India in Manalu
Gandhi Memorial Museum
Gandhi Memorial Museum, established in 1959, is a memorial museum for Gandhi located in the city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, India. Known as Gandhi Museum, it is now one of the five Gandhi Sanghralayas in the country.The museum has an original letter written personally by Gandhiji to Narayanan Sathsangi of Devakottai.
Meenakshi Amman Temple

It is dedicated to Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, and her consort, Sundareshwar, a form of Shiva.
Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal
The Nayaks of Madurai ruled this former Kingdom from 1545 until the 1740s and Thirumalai Nayak (1623-1659) was one of their greatest kings that line notable for various buildings in and around Madurai. The Madurai Kingdom had Portuguese, Dutch and other Europeans as traders.
Aathisayam Theme Park
An amusement theme park located in Paravai on Madurai – Dindigul National Highway 7, 12 km from Madurai. The park is located on a 70 acres (280,000 m2) site and features about 40 games and 20 water rides. The park is popular for its water rides, recreating the experience of waterfalls.
Thiruparakundram
Tirupparankunram Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple and one of the Six Abodes of Murugan, located at Tirupparankunram. The temple is built in rock-cut architecture and believed to have been built by the Pandyas during the 6th century. According to the legend it is where Murugan slayed the demon Surapadman and married Deivayanai, the divine daughter of the king of heaven, Indra, and he is said to have worshipped Shiva.
Vaikai Dam
The Vaigai Dam is built across the Vaigai River near Andipatti, in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu, southern India. It provides water for irrigation for the Madurai district and the Dindigul district as well as drinking water to Madurai and Andipatti.Near the dam, the Government of Tamil Nadu has constructed an Agricultural Research Station for researching the growing of a variety of crops, including rice, sorghum, blackgram, cowpea and cotton.
