Places to Visit in Wayanad

Banasura Dam

Banasura Dam across the Karamanathodu River, a tributary of River Kabini, in Kalpetta, is considered to be the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia. This dam is located nearly 21Km away from Kalpetta and it is one of the beautiful destination in Wayanad. November to May is the best time to visit this place where you can experience travelling in Boat in the lake and the dam.

Edakkal Caves

The only place in India with Stone Age carvings is Edakkal Caves which showcases the nature’s beauty and philosophy on architecture. The cave is twenty five Km away from Kalpetta and it would take 45Mins to climb up the hill which would be worth travelling with zero disappointments. This cave can be visited during 9.30 Am to 4.30 Pm all the day.

Kuruva Island

Kuruva Island also known as Kuruva Dweep is situated 15 Kms away from Mananthavady, 58 kilometers from Sultanbathery and 40 kms from Kalpetta. This Island is spread around 950 acres land and it is surrounded by rich flora and fauna. You can experience the ride along the streams with a boat ride or rafting enjoying the enchanting beauty of the island. The rafts are made up of Bamboo and you would have a fun and thrilling experience. This Island can be visited during October to May from 9 Am to 5 Pm and the restriction is prohibited during rainy season.

Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary

The wayanad wildlife sanctuary also known as Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary is located around 16Kms away from Bathery which is spread over 345 Square Km with rich flora and fauna. This place is considered as the second largest Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala where it is a semi-evergreen, moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests. To get an excited experience of wild animals and Birds this sanctuary is one such place and it would be a thrilling experience.

Pookot Lake

Pookot Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake in Wayanad which is 15Km away from Kalpetta where this lake is spread over 13 acre land with a depth of about 40m. Visiting this place you get to experience a calm and peaceful environment where it is Green and green everywhere and this place is ideal for photography and nature lovers. Boating facility with pedal boats are available for the tourist to enjoy the beautiful and stunning view.

Chembra Lake

If your someone who loves nature and if your someone who can go on anadventure trip then this place is a must visit. 8 Km away from Kalpetta near the town of Meppady, lays the highest peak in wayanad where this peak is visible from almost all parts of Wayanad and it would take at least three hours to reach the top point of Chembra Lake. This place is worth travelling and visiting this place you will get amazed with the beauty of nature.
